Sequoia

After living here for ~10 years, Susan had never been to the Sierra mountains. We rented a cabin in Sequoia national forest for Thanksgiving. We met Annelise and Clara Merry up there. They had their dad, Frank drive them.

The view was from the morro rock. The staris and railing are in the national register of historical places.

Big trees.

Fuzzy trees.
That is morro rock in the distance.

Clara is a good rock climber.
Frank is a very good spotter and an excellent organizer for all of the climbing expeditions.

General Sherman, the largest tree in the world.... Look at the tiny people at the base.

The cabin was on a river. The bolders were very fun to climb on. We spent all day Saturday scrambling over the rocks, trying to stay out of the cold water. The bolders were huge (as you can see). I can't even imagine how fast the flows in this river are during the spring thaw... 3-5 m/sec?

Most of the larger bolders were granite. The smaller ones had iron in them.

View from the cabin looking out across the river. This whole river bed must is floodded during the spring thaw... there were river sand waves / bed formes across the entire section.

Some cactus type things growing in the rocks. Kinda dry here in the summer.

Bend in the river with a pool / course sand. Stone skippin time.
